Diabetes UK

Swim 22

One of our resolutions for 2018 is to be healthier inside and out of the office. Two of our colleagues, Diviya Varsani and Simran Virdee have decided to take this a step further and are raising money and awareness for diabetes UK by taking part in the “Swim 22”.

Every day, around 700 people are diagnosed with diabetes. When diabetes is not well managed it is associated with serious complications including heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney disease and amputations. Diabetes UK makes sure people can manage their diabetes well. They provide information, care and support for everyone affected by diabetes. Their research develops new treatments, technologies and will hopefully, one day, find a cure.

The fundraising element is based on the participants swimming the length of the Channel tunnel (22 miles) over 12 weeks from the 22nd February to the 22nd May to raise awareness on how diabetes can affect families and be avoided in many cases. For the Landmark team, this means swimming roughly 17 lengths every day for the 12 weeks – tiring stuff! For more information about the swimming event and many other events Click here

In preparation for this task both Diviya and Simran are training hard, by swimming 4 or more times in the week, clocking up a lot of mileage. The preparation extends to eating healthier and drinking more water- they have been an inspiration to the whole office – we now have a fruit bowl in the office! We will be posting updates from the team as they progress through the 12 weeks, and are all really proud of what these Women are doing to raise awareness for Diabetes. In the meantime, if you would like to sponsor, please do so by clicking on this link: http://www.justgiving.com/Simran-Virdee1?utm_id=27

All of us here are rooting for you Ladies – let’s do this! #girlpower #mission #power #sisterhood #lifeatlandmark #landmarkgroupuk #swim22 #diabetesuk #diabetesawareness #justkeepswimming #motivation
